About the Course:

    The course will introduce and provide information about the field of soil science as one of the component applied sciences in the study of agriculture, natural resource management and environment.  The lecture kicks-off on emphasizing the importance of soil as a resources and the many ecosystem function and services affecting humanity. The field of soil science and the different specialization were introduced as well as the specialized knowledge being tackle in each sub-field. Several important concepts were presented including soil health and quality, soil fertility and productivity, causes of soil degradation and several problem soils in relation to crop production.  The benefits of organic farming were also discus in comparison with other farming systems and how it impacts soil health and sustainability. The presentation was capped on the role of soil science to promote food security, sustainable development and environmental protection.
